Teak is one of best and most sought after timbers for high-quality outdoor furniture.
It was brought to Indonesia by the Buddhist monks in the 16th Century and later expanded into larger plantations by the Dutch to service their ships. All the teak used in Marlanteak’s furniture is sourced from the Indonesian plantations of state-owned Perum Perhutani, on the island of East Java.
Teak is often labeled as the most valuable tropical hardwood, used for luxury furniture, yachts and decorative building. It withstands extreme weather conditions because of the naturally high oil content and is extremely stable once the thorough process of kiln drying is complete.
The CNC (Computer Numeric Controlled) machining of components, proper kiln drying of the wood and the selection process by the graders of the logs, is what separates excellent from poor quality teak furniture.
Another massive benefit of owning teak furniture is that it does not require any special treatment protect or extend its lifespan. Small surface cracks may appear which are due to the changes in seasons and the wood releasing or drawing in moisture from the atmosphere. They will not affect the strength or durability of the furniture.
On exposure to sunlight, teak’s colour variations steadily even out and will eventually weather to an elegant silvery grey. To maintain this colour teak can simply be hosed down or wiped with a damp cloth on a regular basis. This prevents dust and pollution from penetrating deep into the grain and over time turning the wood a duller, darker grey rather than the beautiful silver colour for which it is well-known.
Combining this regular maintenance with a thorough clean two times a year will ensure the extremely long lifespan expected of teak furniture.
